This Neato is an excellent option if you’re looking to take advantage of the convenience of a robot vacuum cleaner but not sacrifice a lot in terms of performance. The D4 is a great choice for those looking for an automated vacuum that comes with a lot of features. It has nifty navigation and mapping tools along with smart home integration, and an easy to use app.

To create this bot, you have to connect it to its base and connect it to your Wi-Fi network at home. Once that’s done, the Neato app walks you through the initial configuration (linking to Wi-Fi and giving the D4 and so on.). Once the D4 has been fully charged it’s possible to start cleaning.

Once the D4 is up and running, the app lets you create a schedule either automatically or manually at any time. You can also use your voice to control it through Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you have an Apple Watch, you can start cleaning by simply tapping the wrist.

This model did well in our tests on both hard and carpeted floors, collecting 91.3% combined of debris from serpentine paths. However it’s not as efficient in corner and edge cleaning as other models. The side sensors keep the D4 approximately 1.5 inches from walls. Also, it doesn’t have the side-sweeping brush on all, if not the cheapest robotic cleaners. Its raised turret also means it isn’t able to be placed under furniture with low clearance. However, it does support virtual No-Go Lines so you can draw lines on your floor plan to signal the D4 not to go there. Its 75-minute battery life is about average, too. But that’s a small trade-off for all the convenience this model offers.

3. iRobot Roomba 985

This is also iRobot’s most powerful vacuum. It is able to clean up messes that have deeper debris or larger pet hairs, unlike other midrange models like the Roomba 960. This is due to the cleaner’s larger counter-rotating brushes as well as a more powerful motor that has more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum, and comes with recharge and resume. However it doesn’t have the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It doesn’t have iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera used by the I7 to track objects and avoid obstructions.
