Neato Botvac D7
The Neato Botvac D7 is one of the strongest robot vacuums on the market. It delivers excellent performance on bare floors, carpets with high pile, and pet hair. Its flexibility, maneuverability, ease of use and power are top-notch. However, it is less suited to hard surfaces as it doesn’t mop. It also has a high price tag and recurring costs.
Like the others of the Neato Botvac family, has an distinctive “D-shaped” design that allows it to clean along walls and into corners better than competitors with round shapes. The turret houses the Botvision sensors, which will scan and map your home for superior navigation.
The D7 is easy to set up: you simply connect to Wi-Fi, install the Neato App and follow the steps on the screen to connect the vacuum with your router at home. Once connected the app lets you to design an automated cleaning routine and choose from a variety of modes. These include House which provides the full automatic cleaning process; Spot, which lets you select an area for targeted cleaning; and Manual, which allows you to direct the bot using an arrow pad.
When it’s fully charged the D7 starts to learn your floor plan. It does this by creating an electronic map of your space. After the map is completed, it will begin cleaning. The process takes approximately one hour for our house, though it could be quicker in the case of using Eco mode, which is slower.
The D7’s indicator for battery will glow yellow when it is close to being completely depleted. It will be green when fully charged. The D7 uses a larger battery than the more recent D8 and can run for up to two hours on its maximum ‘Turbo’ power.
The D7 is great in cleaning floors that are not clean however, it can become stuck on furniture feet or legs and cannot easily navigate up and down stairs. In these cases, it’ll notify the app so you can help it out.
Dyson Ball Multi Floor Cleaner
The Multi-Floor cleaner is an upright vacuum that utilizes Radial Root Cyclone Technology to maximize suction. Its brush bar has been redesigned to make the bristles tinier and more rigid, allowing it to penetrate carpet fibers more deeply and pick up more dirt without damaging them. It also comes with an upgraded floorhead that automatically adjusts between hard floors and carpets, sealing in suction. Its hose release and wand are in one easy motion, making it easier to reach high or under furniture. It comes with a full-machine HEPA filter so that allergens and bacteria can be sucked up within the machine rather than being emitted back into your home.
Anyone with allergies or asthma is likely to find the Multi Floor an excellent choice. Its suction power allows it to remove dirt and other debris from your flooring. This includes numerous tiny particles that are typically scattered throughout the air. It also performs well on both high and low pile carpet. It also comes with a long power cord that allows you to easily move around your home.
It’s heavier than other vacuums we’ve tested, yet it’s easily transportable and easy to move from room to room. It also has a bagless dust bin that can be emptied with a simple push of a switch. The bin can hold 0.6 cubic feet of dirt, and its transparent body lets you know the amount of dirt it has.
It didn’t do quite as well on floors with no carpet as the Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind however, it was great at collecting kitty litter and rice from carpeted floors. It also picks up more sand from carpets of medium pile than the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe. It’s also easier to maintain and has no recurring costs than the BISSELL Zing Bagless Canister.
Hoover WindTunnel Cleaner
Hoover WindTunnel Cleaner has a strong suction and upright with no bag at a fair price. It’s a great vacuum to clean pet hair, dust and other debris from carpets and hard floors. It’s not the most effective vacuum in its class and it can lose performance when the dirt container gets overflowing. This can be a hassle if you have lots of furniture and lots of pet hair around.
The design is easy to use and robust, however some owners were concerned that it was too heavy for a vacuum of this type. The cord isn’t very long however it retracts automatically. A convenient feature that many users appreciate is the fact that it can manage the transition between carpeting and hard floors without having to switch off the vacuum.
The main selling point of this model is the QuickPass brush roll that lets you remove surface debris in just one sweep. The patented WindTunnel 3 Technology also creates suction channels that lift and remove surface dirt and also deeply embedded dirt. This is enhanced by a filter made from HEPA media and an adsorbent layer of carbon to absorb smells.
Another nice feature that this vacuum features is the rewind feature. This lets you pull out a few feet of cord at a time instead of having to manually unravel the entire thing. It also comes with a variety of hose tools that let you reach into difficult to access areas.
The Hoover WindTunnel Cleaner is good at cleaning bare floors but not so great with larger debris or pet hair. It also has issues with high pile rug. In this regard, it will be more similar to the BISSELL PowerForce Helix. The latter model is more robust, has a larger bin and is much easier to maintain with fewer recurring expenses.
Another positive about the Hoover WindTunnel is that its filter can be rinsed, and will only require washing when it begins to show signs of contamination. This is a great way to cut down on the need for replacement filters and help keep your home clean for longer.
